April 4, 2023 Sarita Shukla, founder of Astitva, was selected as one of six individuals around the world to be honored six members as People of Action: Champions of Inclusion to recognize their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion around the world. In a statement by Rotary International, the organization stated that these individuals and their work "exemplify Rotary’s core values and illustrate how inclusivity can make a transformational impact on individuals and communities."
Sarita and her fellow honorees were flown to Cape Town, South Africa for a gala event which included each honoree presenting on their work, live entertainment, and the presentation of a trophy by Rotary International President Jennifer Jones. The event was done in partnership with the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation and the Nelson Mandela Foundation. A digital presentation of the event will be streamed online and via social media in June.
